I've noticed in the recent years that there are two types of bar situations I find myself in as a HOH person. The first is my favorite. A lightly crowded bar with no background noise or heavy music along with a small group of friends. I don't have any deaf or HOH friends that live in my town, so a small group allows me to lipread everyone easily and follow the conversations well. A few hours later is where I get in trouble. The bar gets dark and crowded, the noise level gets so loud that I swear I can hear better without my hearing aid. Add in the beer googles and lipreading's worthless. So I go from being a part of conversational group to the random guy standing in a crowd, just nodding and smiling to whoever talks to me, only catching about one or two words a sentence and it becomes frustrating and just makes me want to drink more which never leads to good things.... Send me your experiences on going out on the town! Is there a difference between small towns and big cities?

I had those experiences before, when a gentlemen came to me, they talk with me, and I told them that I couldn't hear. Instead I provide pen and napkins or small notebook to communicate. It worked out very well, then we had became good friends afterwards. Try that sometimes.
